Art is not like milk.
Friday, September 5th, 2008Here we are again on the first big day of gallery openings in the fall art season. About 60 exhibitions open around town, to be followed by a smaller group on Sept. 12. Art is not like milk. Drinking more does not necessarily make us healthier. But you wouldn’t know it from the scene that’ll take place Friday.
Most of the shows are devoted to work by young and emerging artists. They, and they alone, make up the art scene for young viewers. However, that is not the only kind of work shown, and each year my recommendations are partly for another audience dating from before the Age of the Text Message, when to be a cultured viewer necessitated extending yourself beyond your time.
